Collaborative Leadership for Community Literacy
Through a generous grant from the UPS Foundation, SCALE developed the Collaborative Leadership for Community Literacy Project. This project ran from December 2004 to March 2006 and was designed to develop the leadership of executive staff and advisors supervising North Carolina LiteracyCorps members so they could contribute even more effectively to the literacy needs of the citizens of our state.
In the work we did with our project partners, we developed materials and designed resources for any campus or community based program to use in order to enhance its outcomes and those of the learners with whom it works.

Through program needs assessments, leadership training, planning support, ongoing technical assistance, and careful project evaluation, the Collaborative Leadership project developed both the current and next generation of nonprofit leaders and provided replicable models for volunteer capacity-building. We focused on developing leaders within organizations, taking the learning back to the organizations, and defining leadership as the ability to identify contexts, needs, and organizational strategies for effective service.
