Transportation

Be prepared with a backup means of transportation. If the person with whom you usually ride is sick, how will you get to the site?

Chapel Hill Transit

The Chapel Hill city buses are free and can be used to get to Carrboro Elementary, Hargraves Community Center, and Rashkis Elementary.

Tutor Vehicles

Tutors who have their own cars are asked to drive themselves (and any other tutors who have similar schedules) to the site. If you are a rider in a carpool, please occasionally offer to help pay for gas.

Carrboro Elementary

Carrboro Elementary is located within a few blocks of the CW, F, and J bus routes.

Take Rosemary Street west into Carrboro; it turns into Main Street. At the light, bear right onto Weaver Street. At the next light, turn right onto Greensboro Street. Pass the Harris Teeter and railroad tracks. Turn left on Shelton Street. The school is at the end of the street; parking is on the right. The phone number is 968.3652.

Central Elementary

Take Airport Road north until you reach the junction with I-40; take I-40 W (towards Greensboro). Take exit 261 for Hillsborough; at the bottom of the ramp, turn right on Old NC 86. This road eventually becomes Churton Street. Take Churton about four miles into downtown Hillsborough. Turn left on King Street (at a stoplight). Go to the next light and turn right on Nash Street. Go to the stop sign and turn left on Hayes. The school is on the right. The phone number is 732.3622.

Hargraves Community Center

Hargraves is served directly by the CW route. In addition, the A, F, J, and M shuttle routes all run about a block from the community center on Franklin Street.

Take Rosemary Street west towards Carrboro. Turn right on N. Roberson Street. The community center is on on your right after about 100 yards. The phone number is 968.2794.

Perry Harrison Elementary

Go south on Columbia Street; at the bridge over NC 54 Bypass it turns into 15-501 S. towards Pittsboro. At Cole Park Plaza, turn right on Manns Chapel Road. Go about four miles to the stop sign and turn right on Hamlet Road. The school is on the left. Turn into the second drive for parking. The phone number is 967.9925.

Rashkis Elementary

Rashkis Elementary is near the V bus route. The nearest stop is outside the Harris Teeter at Meadowmont. To get to Rashkis, walk along Meadowmont Lane further into the neighborhood. The school is on the left about half a mile from the Harris Teeter.

Take South Road through campus and down the hill. At the edge of campus, South turns into Raleigh Road; at the bottom of the hill, it becomes Hwy 54 East. Go one mile on 54 East and turn left onto Meadowmont Lane. (This is across 54 from the Friday Center.) Go straight on Meadowmont Lane. You will pass shops and a Harris Teeter on your left, then several houses; Rashkis is on your left. The phone number is 918.2160.
