The National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL)
NCSALL's goal is to connect learners, teachers, and researchers in order to disseminate research and best practices to practitioners, scholars, and policy makers. Their site provides materials for literacy instructors and tips for organizing programs; it also includes a link for teachers to help assess learners' skills and plan appropriate instruction, among other helpful resources.
ProLiteracy Worldwide
ProLiteracy (a result of the merger between Laubach Literacy and Literacy Volunteers of America) is a nonprofit educational corporation dedicated to helping adults of all ages improve their lives and communities by learning reading, writing, and math problem-solving skills. System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES)

TV411
TV411, the Adult Literacy Media Alliance's literacy program, offers interactive adult literacy lessons. By combining television, print, the Web, video, and community outreach, ALMA has created an effective, flexible and fun program for adults to improve basic reading, writing, and math skills. National College Transition Network

Learns Literacy Assessment Profile

Effective Practices Information Center
Maintained by The Resource Center, the center provides links to current effective practices in literacy education. Site is geared towards educators and tutors.
Reading Helpers: A Handbook for Training Tutors
This downloadable handbook for designing and implementing a reading tutorial program also offers an online database of effective practices in early childhood literacy. This user-friendly site provides links to listservs, newsletters, literacy grants, and a list of online publications in literacy education.
America Reads
Although this website hasn't been updated recently, it offers effective resources for inspiring and teaching children to read. The archived information provides tips and worksheets in English and Spanish for parents, tutors, and educators to use in developing reading skills in early childhood.
Read Write Now: Reading Partners Tutoring Manual
A collection of guidelines and strategies for assisting children in grades 1-6 develop skills in reading and writing. This basic site covers the things a beginning tutor needs to know.
Tips for Parents about Reading

National Children's Literacy Website
Offers strategies for developing cognitive skills in children from infancy. Gives parents educational experiences that take very little time. This site is useful for parents who are concerned with literacy development.
National Center for Family Literacy
Provides the most recent language and literacy research and trains tutors to develop reading strategies for both children and families. Online journals and effective product lists also make this site helpful for language tutors.

Coalition of Limited English Speaking Elderly

Higher Education Research Institute
HERI serves as an interdisciplinary center for research, evaluation, information, policy studies, and research training in postsecondary education. The institute's research program covers a variety of topics including the outcomes of postsecondary education, leadership development, faculty performance, federal and state policy, and educational equity. Site offers reports, papers and press releases.
National Service Learning Exchange
A training-oriented collaboration between five service-learning organizations. Mentoring services are free, consulting services are fee-based. Offers a comprehensive list of other service-learning sites.
National Youth Leadership Council
Affiliated with the National Service Learning Exchange (see above), the NYLC offers training and conferences. Site is oriented towards offering news and conference information, but has a useful database of project examples.
Institute for Global Education and Service Learning
A simple site that promotes specific projects, including a grant-funded project linking youth with homeland security efforts. Website offers useful cross-curriculum connections to homeland security school projects (see LSA-Homeland Security page). Organization also offers fee-based training workshops and publications, including multiple intelligence reflection cards.
State Education Agency K-12 Service-Learning Network
National network of staff from service learning agencies that provide leadership for statewide school-based service-learning. SEANet's site offers a clearinghouse for state service-learning initiatives, including state strategies, rubrics and evaluation tools, and surveys.
