North Carolina LiteracyCorps "Getting Things Done"

NCLC Resources | NCLC News

The NC LiteracyCorpsENGAGE Project is a cohort of AmeriCorps members working to increase the capacity and direct service impact of North Carolina's campus and community-based literacy programs. During the 2010-2011 program year, the NC LiteracyCorps will place 19 full-time, 4 part-time, and 15 minimum-time AmeriCorps members on college campuses and community sites across the state. Our priority service areas include providing skills development training such as ABE, GED, and ESOL to economically disadvantaged adults, recruiting, training and supporting volunteer literacy tutors, and increasing literacy skills in K-12 students. The North Carolina LiteracyCorps is funded through a grant from the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

  • Full time members will provide 1700 hours of service with a 12 month commitment and receive both a living allowance of up to $12,000 and an educational award of $5,350.
  • Part time members will provide 900 hours of service with a 12 month commitment and receive both a living allowance of up to $6,000 and an educational award of $2,675.
  • Minimum time members will provide 300 hours of service with a 9 month commitment and receive an educational award of $1,132. Please note that minimum-time members do NOT receive any living allowance.
