To join SCALE, please fill out our membership form. Please contact us by mail, fax, or email if you have any questions about membership or its benefits.
The Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education (SCALE) wants to help your group succeed! For over 20 years, SCALE has been supporting youth leaders become agents of social change. We work with groups nationwide to provide services and tools to help advance literacy education on their campuses and in their communities.
Members of SCALE receive many benefits which include:
- Unlimited technical support and assistance
- Interactive training webinars tailored to college student literacy tutors
- Social media marketing via SCALE’s blog, Facebook, and Twitter
- Priority access to mini grants to support your projects
- Priority access to the SCALE’s Virtual Student Leadership Institute
- SCALE handbooks and resource materials updated for 2011-2012
Members can earn a Leaders in Literacy Certificate. Certificate earners complete professional development in the areas of Program Practice, Advocacy & Activism, and Youth Leadership. This is ideal for dedicated tutors seeking additional support.

- How to Train Volunteer Tutors
- Promoting Self-Esteem & Self-Efficacy in Struggling Readers

Apply: We encourage groups and individuals to fundraise for the costs!
- Individal Membership ($75 per year): Opportunity to become a SCALE-certified Leader in Literacy
- Campus Membership ($250 per year): Nominate up to 5 individuals who can directly access all the benefits of membership. Add 5 more members for an additional $100.
Face-to-Face Training Membership: $500 per year plus travel expenses
- All of the benefits of the Basic Membership, plus...one training/site consultation designed specifically to meet your program's needs. This includes needs assessment, materials, and evaluation.
