For the past two decades, SCALE has been committed to providing training and support to college students interested in social justice and literacy education. Your support will ensure that we can continue our mission to mobilize and support college students and campus-based programs to address the literacy needs of this country and to develop leaders who are agents of social change.
A program in the School of Education, SCALE is committed to supporting high quality, participatory and student driving literacy instruction. SCALE currently supports 48 UNC undergraduates and 11 graduate students who work to address a variety of local and national literacy challenges. We place 21 highly trained full and part-time AmeriCorps members in 14 literacy organization across North Carolina. We also reach 9 campus based groups around the country through our Virtual Learning Community and hundreds of students, program specialists, teachers and faculty members interested in literacy through our 3 virtual conferences.
 
Funding Priorities:
Read. Write. Act. Virtual Learning Community: Support a campus’s year long participation in training,resource sharing and leadership development. Fund a one year membership: $250.00.
Read. Write. Act. Conference, NLAW, and the Student Leadership Institute: Support free and/or low cost attendance to these important training and networking opportunities for campus and community literacy organizations around the country.
America Reads and Counts: Support SCALE to develop and disseminate additional program materials and training to America Reads and Counts programs nationally.
AmeriCorps NC LiteracyCorps:
Support additional training and technical assistance for local literacy councils and campus and community based literacy organization around North Carolina.
New program development and general operations:
Support SCALE staff to develop new partnerships, conduct needs assessments and research needed to develop training and program materials for new or expanded programs including, Family Literacy and "Parents as educators" programs, Service-Learning and Teacher Education and other potential campus based literacy programs.

Select the School of Education, Under "Fund" select "Other"; then click to the right on "Search Fund".
 

Type SCALE

You will then be asked to enter the amount of your gift.  You can specify if you would like to make your gift in honor of a person or attach a special message.  You will be asked for your billing information to pay online with your credit card.  On that same page, you will see links to a pledge form if you would like to make a gift over time.  This form should be filled out and returned to the development office. Be sure to use SCALE’s fund number which is 2260.

You can write a check to SCALE and mail it to us. Make checks payable to Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education. Mail checks to:
