Dear SCALE friends,
As 2010 draws to a close, all of us at SCALE are excited to share a snapshot of this year’s achievements. Here are just a few highlights. You can download a copy of our full 2010 Annual Report below.

In addition to supporting our core programs, America Reads and America Counts, the NC LiteracyCorps Engage and our newest initiative the Read. Write Act Virtual Learning Community, SCALE hosted three successful virtual conferences which provided training and support to youth leaders in literacy education around the country; providing opportunities to share experiences, skills and resources and improve practice to better support our local communities.

The NC LiteracyCorps was awarded a new three-year cycle of AmeriCorps funding from the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, allowing us to continue to support 14 community- and campus-based literacy programs with AmeriCorps volunteers. We were also selected by Youth Service America to serve as a lead agency for Global Youth Service Day and to organize literacy activities around North Carolina.

SCALE staff were invited to present at numerous conferences including the National Youth Leadership Conference where we shared the results of our Learning to Teach, Learning to Serve program with service-learning experts and researchers, educators and youth leaders from around the country. SCALE was also invited to the Clinton Global Institute University.

Finally, we had the opportunity to celebrate these and many other triumphs on October 16th in the company of outstanding alumni, students, faculty and staff at SCALE’s 20th anniversary events.
